Eastern Croatia
Golden horizons, ancient traditions, and heartfelt hospitality.
About Slavonija
Slavonia is the part of Croatia most visitors never reach, and therefore the part that remains most completely itself. The landscape is horizontal and generous: fields of wheat, sunflower, and corn stretching to a sky that has more room than anywhere on the coast. The light in late afternoon turns the plains gold in a way that feels almost theatrical.
The region's wine culture is among the oldest in Europe. The Kutjevo and Đakovo cellars have been producing wine since the 13th century — stored in stone vaults that predate most nations. The indigenous Graševina grape produces whites of genuine complexity, still largely unknown outside the region.
Slavonian hospitality is legendary and literal. A guest is fed before they have removed their coat. The tradition of kulen — a paprika-cured sausage made in autumn and eaten with ceremony throughout winter — tells you everything about how this region understands time, patience, and quality.
